Stepping Into Clarity
There’s something about this time of year when the light starts to shift - days grow longer, the air feels brighter, and everything around us seems to hum with new possibility. October has always felt like a month of illumination to me - that moment where things come into focus and truth feels a little clearer.
After the slower energy of winter and the gentle growth of early spring, this season invites us to pause, take a deep breath, and ask ourselves: What do I actually want to carry forward?
Because illumination isn’t just about light - it’s about awareness. It’s seeing ourselves honestly. It’s noticing the things that no longer serve us and choosing, with intention, what we want to create next.
I find that this energy often shows up in the stones I’m drawn to during this time.
Roimata - the teardrop form of pounamu - this form of carving has been at the centre of my work bench lately.
The form carries the wairua of release and clarity; a gentle reminder that healing and growth often come through letting go. When I hold a Roimata, I’m reminded that tears aren’t weakness - they’re cleansing.
They create space for light to come in.
Then there’s White Topaz - a gemstone of amplification and truth.
I’ve been working a lot with Topaz lately, both in my own jewellery and in how I set my intentions for the months ahead. It feels like the stone of conscious creation. When you wear it, it’s like saying to the universe, I’m ready.
I know who I am, and I know what I’m calling in.
Together, these stones create such a beautiful rhythm for October: release, clarity, and alignment
It’s easy to rush this time of year - to get caught in the busyness and the planning. But I think the real magic of illumination is in slowing down enough to see clearly. To choose with purpose. To set intentions that feel aligned with who we truly are, not who we think we should be.
This month, I’m reminding myself that illumination isn’t just about seeing more light - it’s about becoming it.
Our connection with stone is always shifting - moving through cycles of illumination, reflection, and renewal. Each taonga carries its own quiet wisdom, guiding us toward the clarity we’re ready to see.
If you feel drawn to a particular piece, trust that pull. It’s your wairua recognising something familiar - an energy that’s meant to walk beside you for this part of your journey.
Every treasure you hold is more than stone. It’s light, memory, and intention intertwined. Treat it with aroha, wear it with purpose, and let it remind you of the beauty that comes from seeing yourself - clearly, wholly, and with love.
If these words or stones have resonated with you, we invite you to share them with someone close to your heart who may also find comfort and connection here.
