The Difference Between Western Astrology & Eastern (Vedic) Astrology

Now you may have noted above, we have listed 2 sets of dates for each zodiac sign… Why do you ask? Great question! Western Astrology & Eastern (Vedic) Astrology is 2 astrological systems that have similarities & differences.

They both focus on time & space & also both feature 12 zodiac signs. However, where they alter is in the understanding of the positions of the constellations. Because of this, the dates of the signs differ, almost by a full sign.

For instance, if you were born on March 25th & are an Aries sign in Western Astrology, then you are a Pisces in Vedic Astrology.

Here’s why…

Western Astrology is linked to the fixed tropical zodiac systems (see a world map with the fixed alignment of the tropics of Cancer & Capricorn) & mainly depends on the movement of the sun. It also relies on the 4 seasons that represent the sun’s movement, solstices, equinoxes & the tilt of the Earth on its axis.

However, Vedic Astrology is based on the sidereal zodiac system & is calculated & observed in the sky & the current location of the constellations. It is not fixed like Western Astrology is & takes into account the movement of the Earth’s axis. For instance, you may not know that the Earth’s axis has varied between 22.1 & 24.5 degrees over the last million years. If this intrigues you, you can discover more about it HERE.

Both systems have their own values & merits & are equally as powerful. It just depends on which resonates more with you. Perhaps both are equally as important to you & you feel you align with both astrological systems. We absolutely recommend delving into your zodiac signs further if you desire to discover more about yourself!
