How to cleanse, care for, and protect your jewellery, Pounamu, and minerals.
At Your PRANA Mineral Gallery, we believe every treasure carries a spirit, a story, and a deeper purpose. Whether you’re holding a piece of jewellery, a sacred Pounamu carving, or a crystal or mineral specimen, your care helps preserve its beauty, energy, and connection over time.
Clean regularly with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth. If needed, use lukewarm water and a drop of mild, detergent-free soap.
Avoid chemicals like perfume, hairspray, and cleaning agents. Remove jewellery before swimming, showering, or exercising.
Store separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box to prevent scratches or dullness.
Gently polish with a silver cloth if needed to restore shine.
Check for movement in stone settings regularly to ensure security and longevity.
Wear often — regular wear strengthens the connection and enhances the natural shine.
Clean gently with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Natural soap is fine if needed. You can also apply a light oil (e.g., fractionated coconut oil) occasionally to maintain its natural glow.
Protect the binding — avoid chewing, tugging, or excessive rubbing (especially with tamariki), and keep your Pounamu away from direct heat or repeated dampness. These can weaken the cord over time and lead to fraying or breakage.
Honour the stone — Pounamu is sacred. It is a taonga — a treasure of immense cultural, spiritual, and ancestral significance. Handle it with presence, respect, and reverence. This stone carries stories, whakapapa, and deep mana. Never take your piece — or the precious, finite resource that is Pounamu — for granted. It is a gift from the whenua, a symbol of connection, strength, and guardianship. Highly respected across Aotearoa, Pounamu holds meaning for all who call this land home. To care for your Pounamu is to honour its journey — and your own.
Physical Care:
Dust carefully with a soft cloth, clean toothbrush, or paintbrush. Compressed air can also help remove fine dust.
Avoid water for soft or porous stones (e.g., Selenite, Desert Rose, Malachite). When in doubt, keep it dry.
Store in a cushioned space to protect natural points, edges, and formations from knocks or scratches.
Avoid direct sunlight — prolonged exposure can fade stones like Amethyst and Fluorite.
Energetic Cleansing:
Moonlight – place under a full moon to recharge gently.
Smoke cleansing – use Sage, Palo Santo, or incense to clear energetic residue.
Sound – tuning forks, singing bowls, or even intention-infused music.
Selenite – rest your piece near or on Selenite for a subtle cleanse.

Be mindful when handling — always move slowly, gently, and with intention.
Never drop your piece — even the strongest stones can crack if knocked or dropped.
Store thoughtfully — use cushioned spaces, lined boxes, or soft wraps to keep each treasure safe.
Keep away from chemicals — perfume, cleaning sprays, sunscreen, and chlorine can all affect your piece’s beauty and energy.
Inspect regularly — especially jewellery, to catch any movement, dullness, or changes before they become an issue.
We’d love to include every detail for every stone — and over time, we’ll continue to expand our knowledge base. But if you’re ever unsure, or have a specific question about your treasure, please contact us directly. We’re more than happy to guide you.
The care you offer your piece becomes part of its journey — a reflection of the love, presence, and intention you bring to it. Gift it with aroha, wear it with purpose, and treat it with the honour it deserves.
