A Mere pounamu is a symbol of chieftainship & is regarded as a valuable heirloom. A Mere was originally used in hand-to-hand combat. They are no longer used for fighting, however their symbolic role continues. May it be a reminder of the battles & historic events of the past. Mere are a representation of courage, respect, strength & will enable its keeper to cut through life’s obstacles.
Over time this Pounamu will absorb its keepers natural body oils, taking on qualities unique only to them. It will harness their energy & its colours & depth of detail will alter beautifully over time. May its colours forever be a symbol of their connection to our beautiful land & one day be a sacred heirloom they hand down to their future generations.
This magnificent taonga (treasure) was carved in our Creative Studio.
