Description
This piece is approximately 70 x 20 x 10 mm, weighs 10 grams & originates from the West Coast of New Zealand.
The Hei Matau, or hook, represents strength, prosperity, good luck & safe travels over water.
The fish hook shape of the Hei Matau finds its origins in Māori legend; that the North Island of New Zealand was once a huge fish that was caught by Maui, using a fish hook taken from his grandmother’s jaw-bone.
The wearer of a Hei Matau is seen as a provider & protector who is strong-willed & determined to succeed in life.
Over time this pounamu will absorb its wearer’s natural body oils, taking on qualities unique only to them. It will harness their energy & its colours & depth of detail will alter beautifully over time.
Te Ua Hamuera is the artist who carved this magnificent taonga (treasure). All our pounamu is carved with love & beautiful intentions.
